Non-preloaded Countersunk (CSK) Fasteners in Tension

CSK fasteners that are  to sustain tension in non-preloaded situations should comply with Reference Standards; Group 4 as listed in BSEN 1993-1-8 i.e. BSEN 15048 or BSEN 14399.

BSEN 14399 fasteners are intended to be preloaded but it is also acceptable / permitted to use them in bearing type (slip) connections and not preload them.  However, it’s important to be clear and careful if slip and non-slip connections are used on the same site / project.
